I wonder how long into the course before you use the pincers ?

I remember back in my training days, it was impossible to get anything fixed level in the booths as they were 85% pollyfilla and only 15% wood that was left due to the thousands of fixings put in before we were there.

I'm at Bracknell doing C&G 2365 Level 2. Judging my progress by hanging around on here and see how much of what you lot talk about I can actually understand. It's still Greek to me, but it's less Greek than it was a few weeks ago :)
Is Brian Moss there still?

He was my lecturer for the old 2391 a fair while ago now.

I have a question here.

Why link the switches with two t&e cables? You only need ONE 3 core and earth cable linking between them.

In a real world install that will be a lot easier and a lot cheaper with one 3 core cable.
Apologies for absence, I spend all weekend behind a bar swearing at the Guinness and being nice to people.

To be honest, I have no idea why we are doing it this way. I just work according to the instructions we get, and I really don't have the experience or knowledge to question it :) I'm sure a lot of what I'm learning isn't how it's done in the real world, but hey, I've gotta start somewhere :)

I would second that but at least the clip pins are

on the underside of the conductors.

Maybe Miss Sweden could explain why?

I met a guy who was looking for his wife in a

supermarket. He said he last saw her looking

for a Swede.

I told him I had just seen her with him. He was

tall, blonde and called Sven.
The T&E isn't actually doubled under the clips, but they are on top of eachother to fit in the back box (I lost the battle for the ones with big enough holes to fit the cables in parallell! :( ).

Thanks for all your comments and constructive critisism, it's really good to know what I can do to improve :D

Didn't read second page before replying I blame the new forum!

So the 6 million dollar question, is did you use all 4 cores between the switches, or just 3 of them. And if so what dod you do with the unused 4th core?

Well atleast at your college your allowed to power it up and see that it works, the college I went to you had to prove it worked properly by testing only with a resistor soldered into a bayonet cap, you don't get that same sense of achievement in my opinion.

What? You've lost me now... (And what is the pound to dollar exchange rate? I do need a new car... :) ).
I think Dave still thinks you've used 2 x T&E as the strapper instead of a 3&E

Ahh I'm with you now :) Tbh, it's been so long (ok, three weeks, but my brain has been to cramped with information since then that it has gone into a mini meltdown and only responds it you bribe it with pictures of Vin Diesel), that I'm getting confused what I did in which exercise. I know you lot all think this is easy, but it's a lot to take in to start with.

I recently had to show my elderly mum how to program her new DVR (cant miss Corrie St, Emmerdale, Crossroads or Brookie (ok, bit of an exaggeration))

Anyhow, after a while she said "thats enough for today, I'm not electrically minded like you & cant take it all in". I sighed deeply so she threw over a knitting pattern she was using, "what devilish language is that written in" , she smiled, "see, its what your used to".

'PROBABLY'

;)

Nearly as bad my college, no more brown singles so where having to wire everything in blue and put brown sleeving on it. It's strange when you take the socket front off and find 4 neutrals

It's gonna be interesting when we come to fill in an EICR for the inspection and testing practical!
