Need help, again

Does a device exist or can something be created to do the following:

I want a light to come on/be activated when it gets dark but be able to be switched off manually then (and here's the trickey bit) come back on when it gets dark again the following day WITHOUT me having to intervene i.e. switching again. Some sort of latching device perhaps?

I'm not really looking for something that is necessarily hard wired more of plug/socket

Without over complicating it and going for a full blown system like c-bus the only way that springs to mind is that you use a light sensor set to the lux level you want and a timer switch.

Basically the timer is set to power up the circuit between xx : xx to xx : xx then the light sensor is wired in series to the timer switch. When the timer is in on position and its dark the light will be on, if you want to turn it off simply hit the override on the timer and it will be off until the next timer setting or you manualy override it again

Thanks for that, it is a good (and simple) idea. The problem there is that I really need to hide the "workings" away while mounting the "switch" somewhere else (that is easily accessible)

What is the application your using this for, ie where is the light and where is the switch needed?

Any of these work for you? one even has a light senor built in.

you could use some kind of relay, so when the button is pressed, it switches off. use the photocell supply so when it gets light, the relay changes back ready to light up next night. ill make a drawing later if your stuck

It's for a set of LED plinth lights in a kitchen

The first switch looks the best bet but the light set works off a plug in transformer and also would have a problem locating that type of switch

How about using a timed photocell to trigger a relay which self latches, reduce the timed "ON" period to the minimum and use a push to break push button to break the latch..

OK, I have a light sensor with wire terminals marked "N", "N", "L" and "Lv". I have attached pictures of a relay (Ref no:6012-8230BP 2 pole 8 pin 230VAC plug in relay - MCG) and a "8 pin base" (Ref no:9020-BLKBP 8 pin base - MCG) that I was told by City Electrical Factors would do the job. If this is ok how do I wire it all up, please

No not a microswitch...

You need a momentary "push to break" switch--- it will have a NC configuration

Make sure it's rated for mains voltage and that the current rating is adequate.

Re the the other switch suggested (from CPC) - I can't get enough information on it tell wether it would be ok. Also I have, as previously mentioned, already bought some bits from CEF and hopefully now only need the appropriate switch and instruction on how to wire it up

That switch would do, but it is really meant to operate wardrobe lighting (where the door operates the switch)

To give you a diagram we would need a better picture of the relay where we can see the diagram on the front much more clearly..

Looking at what you are after this is the best option as it has a built in switch and timer with overide option. If it is for a plinth lighting then cabling should be behind cabinetts fed via socket as you want plug fused properly.Feeding the transformer.Or have FCU fitted.

As stated before the relay would have to be wired for latch unlatch facility,this would have to be installed in an adapter box.you would have to use the output of the transformer to switch the relay as it will be dc operation.

CEF are not the best to ask as they will try to flog automation products.
