Lighting spur from socket circuit

Hi guys,

Just after a bit if advice - Is it within the IEE wiring regulations to take a lighting fused spur from a socket circuit? I've just had a look through BS 6761 but there doesn't appear to be any mention of it.

Take a look in Appendix 15 at the back of Bs 7671

In appendix 15 (of BS 7671 ) it shows examples of various socket spurs from socket circuits but no examples of lighting spurs from socket circuits.

It is just assumed that if a socket spur is acceptable then a lighting spur will be too?

A fused spur can feed any load you want so long (as stated above) as protection is correct.

One more question on the spur subject - Am I right in believing that it's acceptable to take a spur from a fused spur i.e. a spur off a spur?

yes ,cos the fuse in the first spur is limiting the current available ,therefore protecting the cable......Loading & diversity should also be considered......Back to Appendix 15 again !

no, as it cannot have the correctly rated fuse on it.

Of course you can. It obviously won't work as the fuse will blow but the cable will be adequately protected, assuming you use 2.5mm2 or above.
