Lights won'r come back on

The fuse for the lights in several rooms kept tripping and wouldn't stay on. I isolated the lights causing the problem and fuse would then stay on, but the lights in the other rooms wouldn't turn back on although the bulbs are working fine. I tried to switch the fuse on many times before I isolated the problem and there is an RCD in the fuse box.

What is the most likely cause for the lights to not work and how do I rectify the problem if I was to do it myself?

What sort of lights are they? There could be numerous causes. Do you have low voltage transformers? Are they ordinary pendants?

How have you isolated the offending light?

you may have inadvertently broken the loop.

have you checked the wiring for damage at said offending light ?

By fuse you mean mcb? (minature circuit breaker) you may have blown the fault clear resulting in damage to to the wiring?

Regular lights that are running as standard. No low voltage transformer.

All I have actually done is switch off the light switches and turned them back on 1 by to find what i Thought was the problem. I do mean mcb angd the wiring looks normal. I live in a bugalow

Now it isn'twhat I thought was the problem and the fuse stays off again. The mcb Isn'T off its the fuse on the opposite side within the cabinet. I'm sure you can tell i'm No expert, its a wylex box mcb's on thrE left hand side mcb's all on and the fuses on the other side, things that read b10 etc, thats the one that won't stay on.

the thing that read b10 is an mcb. and they are not fuses either. a fuse blows, after that its useless. they also dont have switches on them either

you have a fault somewhere. trying to re-set the mcb will not help and constantly doing so has a good chance of breaking the mcb to the point it may need replaced in addition to finding the fault. you can start by visually inspecting the connections at each light & switch for any signs of a fault, but without test equipment and knowledge of how lighting circuits are wired and work, you may end up spending hours or days and find nothing, where as a sparky could find the fault within an hour and possibly be an easy fix

it could be that a light bulb has blown and it is causing the mcb to trip, Might just need the offending bulb replaced.

Unfortunately, without sounding dismissive, without any test equipment and knowledge of use, your only option of locating the fault is by process of elimination. Hopefully the fault will be visually apparent, but remember to TURN OFF the power before inspecting any ceiling rose, switches etc...
