The new eigth wonder of the world , the much trumpeted , (in this area)  high tech , ultra modern, wonder of modern building design & planning ...the all singing ,all dancing  new B,ham Central Library  has found they have a slight problem .

The two higher shelves of books are too high to be reached unless you're 8 ft tall.

Under H&S a ladder or steps cannot be used as it puts staff in danger .

Just  posting ...

I understand a 7 ft 3 inch tall man walked into that library with a pair of scissors, cut off the bottom two inches from one leg of his jeans, reached up and left the piece of denim on top of the highest shelf. The librarian was heard exclaiming "well that was a turn up for the books !".

So what happened to the push around "kick step" things that used to be so common.

One of these:

Let me guess, you have to go on a training course now to get a permit to use one, and only if you wear full high viz and PPE. And the area is cordoned off to prevent public access. And you have a mate to call for help in the event of an accident.

Mad!

Hop ups banned in the place I'm at now.

My brother is a joiner and has to have two hop ups. They're only allowed to saw on one and stand on the other. H&S guy says it's incase he accidentally saws through it.

I kid you not!

So borrowing the chippy's wooden (with LOTS of saw marks) trestle to hop up on, 'cause I can't be bothered to go out and get my own steps is not allowed any more?

The whole point of the top shelf is that only skilled persons can reach it. If you cant work out how to get to the top shelf your not adult enough to see whats on it.
