Hi All .

I have got two smoke alarms to fit in a house...

one on 1st floor landing and one on groundfloor hallway.

Can i wire the two smoke alarms into the same light circuit.

Or is it better to wire one smoke alarm into 1st floor lighting and the other

into groundfloor lighting.

Also, Is thier anything i should also be aware of doing this job with regard to the regs??????

Thanks Rob

Presumably they are to be interconnected, so that one sets off the other? If so I would think you need one supply for both.

(But happily stand corrected as I am not qualified!)

Sorry they are smoke detectors and alarms in one unit..so is T & E ok to

supply power????

The smoke alarms you are to fit require a T&E feed from one supply to the first one and then a 3 CORE cable on to the secound one. The third core is the interlink which ensures when one is set of the other will sound as well

This is a requirement of BS 5839 Part 6 the standard you will be working to.

T& E means twin and earth i.e. two conductors plus Cpc (Earth wire as people call it)

3 & E means Three conductors plus Cpc

Comes as Brown + Black + grey+ bare Cpc (Earth wire)

Usual to use it for this purpose and two way switching, Fan supply etc.

Use brown as Live, Grey sleeved with Blue for Nuetral and Black as interconnector for smoke alarms
