What is the difference between maintained and non-maintained emergency fittings?.Are non-maintained the ones that can be switched on and off with a switch for normal lighting??????

:)

So how are the emergencys above doors done then I know there on a red plug in 4 core and at the click you will have em,sw,neutraul +earth.Should it be exactly the same as the maintained ones that I have been doing or will this switch the ones above door on every time I throw the light sw?

But am I doing it right should I have sw,emg neutraul +earth at the fittings above the doors or do I cut the sw out of the flex and dont bother with it the ones Ive seen they just have the green emg light on?

Non Mainained come on in the event of a power failure

Maintained are on all the time

Sustained have two bulbs. One is switchable and the other is the emergency light

there is a general rule about this i forget, but public places or places with >x number public/employees require maintained. this helps identify that the emergency light will work when required . i.e the lamp is working now and you will observe it is so can safely assume it will work in a power fail. subject to battery maintenance testing as normal.

Non Maintained - ONLY comes on when supply to it fails

Maintained CAN BE on all the time OR SWITCHED ON with other lighting when building is in use.
