Just thought I'd post up that I've made a donation and got my GOLD cup! I'd encourage others who haven't to do so. Figured I get a lot out of the site in terms of advice though I'll admit that it often makes me realise I've still a hell of lot to learn! I've also paid the SMALL amount to be able to use the download section. I came here via the Screwfix & Dark Side forums so this was a bit of a revelation. I like the genuineness of the majority here, nobody wanting to score points for the most past.

Group Hug! :Applaud

Congrats, I don't think I've earned the respect or place for a gold cup yet!!!! :Salute :Salute:Applaud
Not a case of feeling "worthy" by any means, I'm certainly NOT. It's a great forum IMO so I just felt it was fair to give a little back. TBH I'm humbled by the collective knowledge and attitude on here for the most part. Grateful to those who are willing to help in my understanding etc.

Onoff , talking about donations you've reminded me that I should be making one myself .

I think it must be around THAT time of year . I'm not involved with running the Forum but I know, like everying, it has its running costs .

I've been in this trade for around 100 years now but still learn from and appreciate the knowledge shared by other members on here .

I havn't looked at the gold cups lately but if you feel you are helped with shared knowledge and free advice perhaps you may join me with a contribution to show your appreciation .

there is a good thread somewhere on changing brake light bulbs, ;)

A quick check shows 20,599 members so if they all donate 10p the forum is good for a while, but they won't

Ill throw some in next payday, its cheaper and more informative than paying to go to college.

When I went to college they had the hairdressers quite near to where we studied. So this was an added bonus and what's that got to do with donations?

well, looking at it in a purely basic form,

if , say, 50% of the active members donated an hours wages each year, which in the grand scheme of things isnt that much really,

then I think we can continue this good forum without the added adverts and continual stream of pushing products simply because they give the forum money,

Im sure we know where that happens!

now, I dont for one minute think that anywhere near 50% of members will evn think of donating, most people think of the internet as FREE information,

but someone has to pay for it, whether it be the actual bandwidth or web address, or my esteemed colleagues simply giving up their time for free, and we all know time=money(try ringing your solicitor!)

its all a voluntary service, and as much as we all enjoy it{esp the beer on a saturday night :D ], I dont really see any hardship in giving up 1 hour out of 2080, its hardly going to change your life? is it?

but this forum just might. :D

There are 20,623 members now since Philbas looked , it certainly looks as if not many think of donating to the costs of the Forum.

If 10% subbed .50p it would be a tremendous help. Not gonna happen is it .
