MCB’s and their Replacement

Trying to uncover 2 things, and having no luck. In relation to Part P:

1. Is replacing a faulty MCB non-Notifiable?
2. What is the solution to replacing an MCB , when the faulty one is no longer available from the manufacturer ?

for 2, check for other manufacturer that does - square D is now schneider, and schneider state their MCB's are compatable with older square D and square D is with schneider

However, there are many ranges all badged schneider, from both the Sqaure D and Merlin Gerin ranges, and it can be a little confusing to ensure you are ordering the correct range, hell there are even two versions of acti-9 RCBOs and backwards compatability only works one way with them!

Worst case scenario would be adding a small additional consumer unit. This technically could get away with not being notified as your not installing a new circuit or replacing a consumer unit, your only repairing what was already there and leaving the installation in no worse a state by doing so.

1. Like for like maintenance replacement of components or sections of cable are not notifiable..

2. After wasting too much unpaid time over the years, faffing around trying to locate replacement components for obsolete equipment, for one-off customer/jobs, that in reality are probably not that economical viable....
I generally find it best to either remove obsolete kit and replace with current and/or install some new kit along side the existing obsolete stuff... Or Walk Away!


(It's a similar principal to quite a few years back when I stopped faffing around with split-load/dual RCD CUs.. just quote & fit full RCBO CUs... or walk away!!)

If you charged for the faffing time, it would probably stick the bill up to the point of being uneconomical. Plus that's always done at home when you should be chilling and spending time with your family.

It's also fair to say the problem will only arise again sometimes in the future
