Mixing Cable Sizes

Ive just done 19 Aurora downlighters with 1.5mm cable and it was tight getting the two cables into each chocblock. Do you guys use them Ashley maintenance free junction boxes for downlighters so only 1 cable into the actual downlight itself.? Just looking to make it easier next time lol

I use JCC F/R , 240V downlights and wire in 1.00 mm ,connectors and clamp will take 2 X 1.00mm nicely.

According to Mr Ohm, & my calculator 50W @ 12V = 4.16r amps

The cable between the lamp & the transformer would be the cable supplying the lamp would it not?

The cable supplying the transformer would draw a lot less current depending on the rating losses etc.

 
That's right alchemist, only between the tranny and the load/light....

My swimming pool lights are 12v/300 watts a piece, and i have 2 of them, fed from individual trannies in the pool control panel. The mind boggles at the current they draw from those rather large trannies 25A each!! There wired in 6mm cable due to length of runs and how easy it is to lose a good part of that 12volts at that load ...haha!!!

That just highlights how rubbish most downlighters are.

When was the last time you saw a 12V downlighter with terminals that would accommodate two 4mm sq cables in each terminal?

I didn't think so.

Eh? Only needs to be 1.5mm

 
yep

derate by 50% gives you 6 amps to play with

i have just done a 2 bed detached and given it 3 lighting ccts

up lights 600w max no diversity

lounge o/s lights util dining room 600w max no diversity

Kitchen, toilet, under cabinet lights 600w max no diversity

just need to plan it properly
