I dont think there is ANY need for ANYONE other than the police/SAS etc etc to have guns. There just isnt any justification for it.
Another rather ignorant ill thought out post of yours there.

Protection of crops and livestock? Humane destruction?

What does a farmer do when foxes are eating his lambs or chickens? Do you have any idea how much of a plague rabbits are to farmers crops (including grass)?

As this is clearly an area you know little about how about doing a little research on the subject and then you'll see how necessary firearms are. This is ignoring their use for pleasure......

just thinking last night what would you do if there was an intruder in the middle of the night?

get the gun, got to be prepaired to use it or he might end up with it,

dont get the gun and risk harm to your family, and he still might get it

if you do use it and he gets injured or dies you could be in real trouble, but at least your faimlys safe.

Good point about the booze and drugs etc, but that isnt what this is about.
I obviously didn't make my point very clearly, sorry.

What I was trying to say is that there are many things in modern life for which there is no justification (your word) or need (used by someone else earlier in the thread). Many of them kill more people annually than legally held fire arms.

I would also add that if this thread isn't about alcohol and drugs, then neither is about legally held fire arms - Moat did not hold a certificate for his sawn off shotgun.

My shotguns are under lock and key in another room, the keys to the safe are in another room, the humane killer is locked in a safe within a safe and the bullets are locked up in another safe.

I'm not fit to answer the phone in the middle of the night - I'd grab the 4D Maglite I have by the bed if I thought there was an intruder, not go banging away for firearms!

that guy in cumbria had a licence
yes he did as did Thomas Hamilton (Dunblane), but these are very vary rare events, cf all the other firearms incidents (as Deke said, and including the case this thread began talking about) were illegally held unlicensed firearms.

Please do not confuse the issues of legally held and illegally held firearms.

i did not relise i had,

already mentioned in earliar post that i am not anti gun,

gun crime would barly be affected if gun ownership was baned

anything could be used to kill

my only point is that any one of sound mind can potentialy lose there nut

As are mine. My guns are in a home office approved cabinet in a very difficult to access place. I then have a secure safe in another room which has the keys. In the time it would take to get the guns out I think I would have calmed down!

As for protecting myself, property and family - anyone that dares to intrude wouldn't come face to face with my guns but would feel the full force of true fighting skills learned over many years. As I tell my kids on a regular basis - if you cannot / won't be prepared to use your fists that God gave you then don't ever enter a fight.

My feelings exactly - I dodn't fight personally, But I don't believe in people fighting with weapons. Use your fists.

Amazing 72 posts and nobodys mentioned his ex girlfriends boy friend name which was Chris Brown. Looks like Raoul Moat will die more famous than the poor person he shot dead.

I never rated him as a singer and he did beat up Rhianna..........

Guns, knives, bottles, bricks, cars etc don't kill.

The people wielding them do.

As others have pointed out, you can kill a man with your bare hands as well as with a gun or a knife. Anything can be used as a weapon.

He took a life and now he's forfeit his and as far as I'm concerned, that's what he deserved.

Many of you won't agree, but it's an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Whatever problems he was having he crossed the line and now he's paid the price. The guy was certifiable, he compared himself to the incredible hulk.

The world ain't a fair place to live in sometimes, but it does no good to bleat about it. We should all count our blessings.
