On the news this morning it was announced that Theresa May had promised the DUP a billion pounds of government money if they supported her! When a minister was asked where this money was coming from his reply was "we found it, you know, a bit like when you lose money down the back of the sofa" .Well they must have one hell of a sofa, not to mention pretty poor financial people if they can just "lose" that amount of money.

Surely it cannot be legitimate for her to do this? If she isn't already running the country, then how does she know this money is there, unless she'd stashed it away beforehand (dodgy) also who decides this is her money to offer as what is essentially a bribe to get support. If she is already running the show then surely she doesn't need to buy off the DUP to support her.

One thing is certain there are a lot of unhappy people about, lets be honest, I'm sure we could do a lot better things with a billion pounds than hand it to a bunch of Irish terrorists to support an idiot, and they moan about Donald Trump.lol

Phil, I'm reading your threads. One says that a majority of Brexit voters won and that should be the end of it. The other says that there is a majority of a Tory-DUP government but their majority shouldn't be respected. Where is the consistency.

hang on a moment, the Tory party has just used Tax payers money to effectively buy 10 MPs. I don't really see how that is legal?

how do you think labour get the votes of the unions?

by making laws that suit them, is that legal, making laws that suit your supporters?

pots and kettles,,,,,,,,,,

The Tory party use tax payers money to buy the votes of many sectors, Labour buys the votes of other demographics. I am no fan of the DUP but that's the nature of pork barrel politics.

Corbyn would have bought off the SNP, which would have been his right.

I am also anti-Brexit, but if you respect politics then you also have to respect the oppositions right to oppose you and your right to fight against them.

I'm no Tory either but I admired Michael Heseltine when he said he would do everything in his power to oppose Brexit, and if Labour won a majority he would do all he could to oppose it. He's right. Just because you are on the losing side doesn't mean you have to give up. Just because you win, it doesn't give you a divine right to expect your opponents to agree with you. It is all about wielding power and striking while you can.

The Labour party was formed by the trade unions. It is very legal to make laws based on a democratically elected vote and run through parliament to vote on. It is suppossed to represent the will of the people (bit debatable when the winning party only has about 30-40% of the total electorate vote for them, which has been the case or decades)

But a direct 'bung' after voting seems rather different to me?

@rapparee I also like conviction politicians, even if I don't agree with them.

All This does is reaffirms my belief that 'they' know far more than they let on and that they'll never truly do what is right by the people for the people.

This is just another waste of money, that could've been used for a much greater cause. You ever get the impression that these so called elected people treat politics and this country as a business in which they are the only shareholders.

But the people voted for Brexit, I don't recall being asked if  I wanted an alliance between the tories and dup!

Aren't most governments an alliance, even if not upfront, deals are done in back rooms.
It just annoys me, the government goes on about austerity and how money's tight, cutting budgets for the police and nhs as well as other important stuff, then suddenly when she needs money for some dodgy deal, she miraculously finds some "down the back of the sofa" . Blimey talk about absolute power corrupting absolutely!
