Just reading the latest NICEIC magazine where Kerch's girlfriend mentions .. I paraphrase :-    She is surprised to see a number of new organisations looking to add confusion .

Some looking at introducing a licence to practice , others seeking to introduce "one ring to rule them all  "

None are considering the existing infrastructure or seeking to collaborate ,  .

Has anyone seen or heard of anyone else climbing onto the gravy train. ?    I havn't ...other than the  Fair Trades  & Checkatrader hangers on,.

In my opinion they are looking to make an easy buck   and will waste their time with all the existing lot already in place.

Feel free to add those I forget :-

NICEIC

ELECSA

NAPPITT

STROMA

ECA

JIB

That I would agree with, all electricians must meet a specified level of competence to be licensed to practice their trade. The scams and the JIB must be kept out of the process.

It’s not often the septics get it right but they have in the matter of licensing.

Something else I would like to see is a UK equivalent of the AHL (Authority Having Jurisdiction). They carry out independent inspections for all but minor works. You get a red ticket and the PoCo (DNO) won’t connect.

Tony..  how do you suggest what you say is funded ?

I don’t know, possibly like DVLA’s licensing fees.

A fee would have to involve for ALL electricians to maintain the system but it must be independent and self sustaining, not profit driven.

It wasn't until I retired and looked at the industry (admittedly through forums), Then I realised just what was going on. The JIB nor the NEC ever encroached on my little world.

AHJ’s are building control with teeth, they are funded by local government.

As you say in your signature , life is strange .

Like a fool I thought I had a "licence"   in the shape of an Approved JIB card and later I even had  "Register of UK Electricians "  or something . Spent my whole working life doing Industrial , Commercial & Domestic work  until  the goalposts were moved  .  Now it costs me around £500 per year for the pleasure of doing Domestic  work and various outfits have been created to guarantee that I , & others are competent to do so .

Ah Tony, I respect your comments & posts so no offence,  but I need another layer of expensive legislation like a cheese grater on the scrotum TBH

Based on what you say , I think that starting years ago , when we gained our Electrician's  qualification we could have been licenced similar to Australia but  everything in place now would need scrapping .

What I DO think is necessary , just to keep the hare running , is a "Licence" for small builders  based on at least the basics of the Building Regs  if nothing else.      Funny how they are left well alone while , Sparks , Plumbers , heating guys , Gas installers  etc seem to be concentrated upon .

Theres an earlier attempt that died a death ...face hidden to protect the innocent.

I've no idea now who introduced this one . :C

We've discussed  the possibility  of setting up our own scam in the past, It's only a few qualifications and some paperwork, could at least get it up and running on a handful of people.

Anyone up for it? I'm feeling a bit poor at the moment and could do with the extra cash!

@kerching LFB won't be retired he will be frozen in carbonite to be thawed out for seminars, trade shows and just to annoy @Tony S

Oh & more random stabbing suggests that there is 41k registered electrical businesses  and 215k "electricians ".

More gravy please!

Good researching there Ducky .

I agree with The Duck ...a new scam needs to be introduced by this Forum .  We have  qualified CEOs  with the likes of Sidewinder , Canoey , The Doc , one or two others   .

The Talk. ElectricianForum Competent Operatives Scheme     TEFCOS , it has a nice ring to it .   I can see the sticker on the van now ...TEFCOS  Accredited  Installer.

I see Stepps as the first assessor out on the road on the firm's pushbike.

MissSSSweedy  on the stand at the ELEX Show .

The problem "we have" with Certsure/NICEIC/Elecsa is the complete smoke and mirrors about their financial affairs.... so if I have my "way" any of these organisations would have to be a complete standalone Limited structure.... so the full P&L would be disclosed, as would employment details, wages etc

So instead of NICEIC / it would be NICE AND SIMPLE!
