my electrician rewired the whole house and fitted distribution board in the extension with 40 amps,  He did not rewire the extension. I  put 5 socket in the ring main and 8 lights and it got 4 circuit, 2 for the light and 2 for ring main in the distribution board.   There is electric running in wires or circuit but there is no power or light.  My electrician is sick and is not available.  please help me.

Best wait for your electrician or call another one.

I don't know what "There is electric running in wires or circuit but there is no power or light" means, other than you don't understand electrics.

so in short you DIYed it and messed up. Best thing you can do is switch the entire board off before something really nasty happens like a fire. After that look for local sparky registered as Approved Contractor (apologies now to the decent Domestic Installers), don't go through Check a Trade or similar online websites - they never post the negative comments.

Id say just look for a local competent electrician, dont worry about him being registered with any schemes, as long as he is good,

the schemes dont care if they are good or not, anyone can join them if they pay enough money.

I do agree though, do NOT go through check a trade or any other online site as they only show positive reviews, and not the bad ones.

In the distribution board, there are four mcb, 2 x 32 and 2 x 6. I wired with 2.5 cable on the first 32 mcb and make a ring and the end bits back to the second 32 mcb.

+1 AC status does NOT = good!

Word of mouth is the best way to find a decent sparky ;)

Okay So I'd probably get a spark in as you clearly don't know what your doing. Sorry to sound harsh but what you have done is quite dangerous.

2.5mm cable on its own is good for 20+amps (depending on insulation/distance/installation method)You have wired this to a 32a mcb and connected it to another 32a mcb.

In short get a sparky in please!

:)

Sorry, I mean the ring main start with the first mcb and go back to the same first mcb.  But I test with the screw driver tester and it light even the earth and neutral wires on the distribution board.

Take the advice you've been given and PAY for a competent electrician to check this out for you. Before you live or not to regret it.

Why are people so stupid when it comes to electricity? Would you go play with the power lines on the trains? So what makes you think the power lines or cables in your house are any less dangerous?

And this screw driver tester is all the test equipment you have...? Its not going to help much as It cant do continuity & insulation tests!

If the earth is live then something is very wrong. please stop and get someone in.

If your "screwdriver tester" lights on the earth and neutral wires then CALL AN ELECTRICIAN you have something seriously wrong and well outside your capabilities to safely fix it.

I have moved this thread from Introduce yourself to DIY as it seems more appropriate.
