Hey guys how's things?

I been really busy with the new job sound complete rewires in 1 day.

Yup that's right everything including bathroom and kitchen.

There's a team of 4 me included and I wanted to ask some of you guys for any help or pointers in speeding up the process as we're currently finishing 5:30 onwards.

The one guy installs the kitchen rewire. The other is up stairs drilling through joists. The other starts preping the socket drops and I do the lighting points and switch points. My self I I dismantle the existing lighting points and run trunking lids up ready for new cables whilst fitting the new light fittings in place and same for smokes. I was thinking of using rods to speed things up. And also using an electric wood saw to cut the trunking to size and pre drill to speed things up. After I finish second fix I jump up stairs aim the attic to rewire to lighting up stairs too. So same process. And pounters would be really helpful I've also been watching a lot on YouTube for tricks of the trade. Some really good ones on there too. :D

Sorry about some of inaccurate wordings as its this frigging phone lol

trunking shears......multitool instead of "electric wood saw"........pin hammer for rawlplugs inside trunking-(turn the hammer round and push the plugs in with the end of the hammer handle tapping the hammer head with your hand).....meggar grip where fixing is difficult or stickyback trunking........these nail things are quick Express Anchor - Orbital Fasteners

You can't rewire a house in a day and do a good job, simple as. I bet any house you've done hasn't seen a clip.

I suppose they're all tested as well, Probably from the van.

Gavin , who determines that the rewires are done in one day ? Is it whoever you are subbing to or what? I'm guessing you are all on a price which is perhaps not that good , hence the SAS style approach .

So its all finished, patching, tested and certified by 5.30 ? Are you completing 5 rewires per 5 day week ?

I ask because at my age , with my knees and my need for tea every two hours I wouldn't even contemplate doing anything like that .

We did an occupied rewire five weeks ago , the usual 3 of us , 3 bed semi took 3 days, the large kitchen was already refurbed back to the board and I returned for testing & dealing with Western Power doing the main earthing for half a day.

Not having a go at you Gavin , I agree you have to start somewhere and as I said in your last thread , I respect the fact that you get off your aristotle and find work as and where you can . Its not easy these days.

Hope they arent energising untested circuits. But your not doing a trainees work your doing a mate/improvers work and are getting paid **** all for it, whereas someone somewhere is making a packet out of it.

In an ideal world I would be working as an apprentice I would love a position that allows me to take my time and absorb everything, but due to the working climate there's not a lot I can do about it but just keep my chin up work my ass of whilst going to collage 2 evenings a week and catch up on learning at weekends too. And also think of easier ways to install quicker and easier. I'm dedicated to the max. It is very hard at that pace to complete but I also find it rewarding so to speak as I'm in the deep end sink or swim you know. :)

Have to agree with Jono but I'm afraid it may be the name of the game during these hard times .

All guys like Gavin can do is get on with college courses and learn all they can on the job, where they can .

I'm reminded of the days when workers waited outside the gates to a factory or mine , hoping the foreman would choose them to do a days work .

Nothin personal, but these companies take work away from better contractors that would do a good job of it, and they devalue the work we do by putting in ridiculous prices. As above, you obviously energise untested circuits. I know it's not you, it's the people you work with/for. The sooner customers realise they get what they pay for the better, but they never learn.

there is no possible way you can re-wire a house to an acceptable standard in 1 day.

and as already mentioned, you shouldnt be switching anything on until I&T has been done, so are you leaving them with no power overnight?

The entire house. I know it's not good not testing before energising but I'm in no position to say. Even when I worked for the local authority they didn't test before energising.

Not good,

. I take it spec is complete minimum, ie 1 socket per room and 1 light, surface trunking etc etc. Have to say I think your employer is taking wee :^O

How many circuits Gavin ? If I was rewiring in a 3 up 2 down standard house I would included; lighting x2, 3x ring - 3 points per room (kitchen on plan), shower, cooker, smokes, boiler and burglar alarm. Just wondering how much u get done on a day? it takes me 3 unoccupied.

The property is occupied. 1x ring upstairs consisting of 2 points per room and 3 for master room. Lighting up stairs and smoke also fan for bedroom.

Down stairs consists of 2x rings 1 for kitchen which is cooker 4 doubles. Washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer. Sometimes tumble dryer. 2x coring for 1x tumble dryer and 1x fan wall is double brick too.

The rest is 3 doubles living room more for dining area. Smoke down stairs, and 2 pir lights outside front and back. Also puting in tails and earthing.

If I'm counting right, is that 4 circuits? Or 5 if smokes are on there own? Are they iterlinked ? And do you do 2 way switching ? It's hard for me to get my head round how its done in a day, you must all have a massive work ethic, quick job or not, especially if its lived in and u have to move cabinets and lift carpet, and put it all back and tidy up, all for half 5 ?
