Finally got round to building a basic website. which is hosted by the forums very own Cloud 9.

is there anything that does nt look right or needs adding.

its nowhere near finished but took me a while to do this so going to add to it over the next few weeks.

also does anyone know how to add a (google) map. also thinking of buying a second domain name, is it easier enough to redirect this to my site?

and the fastest way to get on to front page of google?

i know its bright - my van is yellow and black so want it to stand out.

cheers

wayne

Hi mate site looks good so far, layouts good, I like the horrors part! Nice addition! Lol

How about a few logos?

I would also have at least your mobile number on the front page so people don't have to look too hard to find it

But.......Think the yellow is too much tbh bit dazzling!

I have only just roughly finished mine, if you get 5 mins take a look and give me your honest critique, would appreciate it

First impression the colour is all wrong, remember you can still have your company colour scheme running through a web site but in a more subtle way.

You have some spelling mistakes and I have taken the liberty to copy and paste the text here with the corrections.

We are a small family company but can cope with the demands of any size job. We have been sole traders since 2009, quite a new company compared to some, but we offer a fast, reliable & professional service so our customers come back to us and recommend us more and more. Because of this we do very little advertising as we find ourselves very busy, which in the current climate is fantastic.

We are fully C&G Qualified & Insured. We are currently registered for Part P with Elecsa as an Approved Contractor, which includes being regularly assessed to ensure we are working to the current Electrical & Building Regulations. All work is tested to BS7671, and a certificate is issued for all the work which requires one. If Notification is also needed this will be actioned through Elecsa and a compliance certificate issued.

monkey5,

No mention of the site host on there, that I could see, so perhaps a link or something to Cloud9Dynamics, considering the blinding deals he has offered!

The yellow & black is a bit too in your face for my liking to be hones, I also find it difficult to read coloured text on black, just my opinion that.

ok guys i take your point with the yellow, it was just something that i tried with the rv site builder. i didnt find it very easy to use to be honest, found it limited on what i could do. is there a program (free) which i could design a better one then import it straight on to it?

thanks for the spelling mistakes being sorted, it was rather late and had been doing it with 2 kids wanting my attention too!

the host i wanted to put at the bottom of each page like a foot note - will get it sorted.

Logos - i have a logo which i use but again found it difficult for it to sit right. i tried the in built templates but didnt find one i really liked hence i went for a diy approach - now i see this was wrong:Blushing.

i thought i had put phone number on home page but will sort it if not.

thanks for the input guys, i think i start a fresh but a least theres one on the WWW for the time being.

cheers wayne

manator - which works did you change im trying to compare and struggling - maybe it the yellow on the black lol.

welchy - you site looks very smart mate, was it done for you by a company, how much did it cost if you dont mind me asking? wanted to save myself abit of money as normally pretty good with playing about with things like this but for some reason i struggled with this.

Hi, I just had a look and there is no text displaying on my browser. I'm using Chrome on windows xp

Not sure if you've taken it down or there is a problem, so thought I'd let you know.

im messing about with it mate and for some reason its not publishing as it should, my previews working right but when published its not updating everything. bloody thing!!

cheers for warning me tho

Technology eh! it'll never catch on.... ?:|

For what it's worth, I was told that each page needs a reason to be there and it needs to tell the viewer what they should do next.

ie a call to action. Things like...

"call today on this number xxxx xxxxx for a free quotation"

"look at our gallery to view our recent work"

That type of thing....

On a personal note, I've always been a fan of the plain white page (think google home page) nice and simple. That way your logo (and your logo is bright) can stand out.

And put your phone number on every page :)

Sorry, I'm starting to ramble now.

Good luck with the site.

no worries much appriciated mate, ramble on with more ideas.. will start with a blank canvas ie white as im really struggling to adapt this one, not sure if its me or the software. i do something then publish and it shows something else. who knows whats going on. after a program that will let me do allsorts then i can import to rvsite builder i think. do any of the microsoft office programs do anything?
