Dont know much about these kind of things but thinking about a tablet PC as its easier to transport, take on holiday etc but wondered which was best for my particular situation:

I already use and like the android system on my phone

Like listening to music on PC/phone etc

Like recording live music - jam sessions etc using stuff like band in a Box, Audacity etc.

I wont be taking it to work or doing accounts on it etc

Pros and cons of each?

Read some reviews but mainly inconclusive

Thanks

I now have an android tablet instead of the iPad2 that I had before (had to swap with daughter to keep her happy).... IMHO I think that you'll find that most android devices are the same (if they use the same OS) so a Nexus 7 will be much the same as your phone except for the fact that it has a larger screen.

Unfortunately I don't know how they are for music (I like the variation of radio) and I haven't found any word processing software (yet) that is as polished or as good as Apples "Pages",,, but like you say you aren't going to be using it for that

One reason for going with the Nexus is that you will be able to add additional memory cards whereas you can't with the iPad... this would mean that you could transfer your music to a memory card using your PC and then pop it in your tablet

Apple stuff can be taken out of the box and used,  it works perfectly.

My misses got an an android tablet and its the biggest waste of time. She said it will be fine it does what an ipad can, now she realises it does it when it can be bothered and is nothing but trouble. If you want to save money and spend time mucking around trying to get stuff to work, get the android. If you want to get it out of the box and just use it get the ipad.

my house now has imac, mac book pro retina, ipad, iphone 4, iphone 5, 2x ipod touches, ipod.

even my 3 year old girl hates the android and begs to use the ipad

The Nexus 7 doesn't accept SD Cards. but you will get double the space anyway.

If 'IJunk' is still the same as it used to be then no, you cannot just get it out of the box and use it. You must connect it to a pc first for it's initial sync. This may have changed.

As For the Nexus, power it up, add you Google account login (Which the original poster will already have as he has an android device already) and off you go.

ipads do work straight out the box now

apple stuff is in a different class.

Like comparing a French van to a German van.

once you go MAC you will never go back

More like, once you can afford Mac, you cannot go back because your IJunk won't share any of your stuff with anything else

Sooooo Soooooo Wrong :slap

I'm getting to the point i may have to buy you an iMac and iPad so you can see the light :pmsl:

I spent 6 hours the other day installing windows 8 for a nephew, 6 poxy hours, every time windows did an update or needed some drivers there was a problem and it couldnt continue, googled it and weyhey - loads of hits - LOADS !!!!, and this was 4 different errors across the install, after 6 hours finished (windows 8 is complete and utter garbage but thats a different story !!!) - And guess what - 4 important updates - won't install - google again - loads of people have the problem - no known fix :slap

I could have done a mac in 30 minutes with no stress

:pmsl:
Well simply put, left to my own devices I will never see 'that' light as I will simply never be able to afford it. I have done a few installs of win8, no issues. I have it on a USB Stick. I just pop it in and it installs. I personally dont like the new start screen but a small program soon gets rid of that.

Dont get an IPad,

Having seen its restrictions on my wifes friends sons mini, its terrible!

You cant watch loads of videos without add ons.

If you want to pay over the odds for something that does half job unless you keep paying for extras then get apple,

If your a tight git like me then go for something *nix based, like Android.

OH, nearly forgot, Apple is *nix based, only they charge you more for it, and for everything 'extra' you want to do.

How about a Blackberry Playbook? 64GB for £130 ish. Think you can also load Android onto them though maybe only 2.3?
