They’re called timber frame houses, very much more energy efficient than traditional, but it is hit and hope when drilling through. The plywood is osb board and is the external surface of timber frame so internally only plasterboard unless additional ply is required for support ie kitchen cupboards. All back boxes are supposed to be filled with a fire retardant liner internally.
