My good lady spent a few days in Edinburgh over the weekend with some Sottish mates

they have started calling her Jemima.....

she is worried its a slang word or has a double meaning

any ideas or is she paranoid ????? (i think she is)

Cheers

well I speak fluent Ullans [formerly called Ulster Scots] as a first language and know of no meaning to it,

that was why I suggested a Scots form of an english name.

BTW, Jemima was a fairly popular lowland/western name up until about the '50s, still used quite a bit, but not so popular now unless its making a revival.

My misses is Scotch ( she goes mad if she gets called Scotch)

I can confirm they are full of sh@@. They like the sound of there own voice, and throw in any phrase/word if they think it sounds good. It usually has no meaning or relevance to the conversation, or the surroundings.

Or mabey that's my misses

Is it just a case that they thought her name was Jemima and no one corrected them?

One of the guys at a wholesaler that used to be in the Jewellery Quarter here, decided my name was Dave (Yes, as in Fools & Horses) went on for at least 15 years till they moved the branch.
