Hi,

My name is Dan, and I recently came to UK. I graduated University in Romania (2011), and received Bachelor and Master degree both in Building Services. I also did a NARIC assessment and they said these degrees are comparable with British Bachelor (Honours) degree and British taught Master

Electrical wiring of buildings (interior), machines or any other equipment

EDIT : this is a quete to Zeespark's post

Hi Dan and welcome to the forum. You have been well informed, your certificates obtained in Romania will still be valid in this country providing that you submit to extra training/courses. You will need to have English qualifications, which for you should not be a problem, the first step is to do the 17th edition course. Another usefull course is the Health and safety course, which will show potential employers of your ability to grasp the Health and Safety regulations in this country.

You could apply for membership with the IET, you may have to undergo an interview because your qualifications were obtained in another country, but again your qualifications should be recognised.

I would contact organisations, or fellow Romanians who have experiance of this transition to English and get some advise on how best to go forward.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi all,

With all the [very impressive!!] qualifications that Dan has got, surely it would merely be a case of 17th ed, and do a few jobs, and register with a scheme to do domestic work??? and that only for the part "p" stuff.

Remember, legally [apart from part "p"] he has only to show he is "competent" and a think a masters degree might just do that!!

Even once the requirements for scheme membership changes, surely to god, these qualifications would be about ten times the "underpinning knowledge" required for the new NVQ and would all be accepted as "accredition of prior learning" as they call it, so it would merely be a case of a college once again doing a few, "on the job assessments" and he would have the very "latest" in quals to work as an electrician and a lot more besides??

How many people are going to be able to apply to join a scheme and be able to say "oohh, apart from my NVQ, 2382 whatever, i have got a masters degree!!!

Apart from this, as his qualifications were all done in a "european" country, have not the JIB or whatever, just got to accept them the same as they would if he had a uk degree?? After all, i think all "european" qualifications for dentistry and to be a doctor [of medicine] are accepted here with just a test to see if you can speak english, which Dan obviously can!!!!

Very well done Dan i say!!

john..

the one thing I will add is this,

assuming your quals are NOT in English, you will have to have them translated by a specified verified agency, a list will be most likely available from C&G or such like.

Couldnt he contact the JIB (assuming its the same as SJIB up here in sunny scotland?). They may be familiar with Dan's courses and some may qualify for equivalent UK certificates and they should be able to advise on any further training if required.

I recently passed the ECS assessment, and the next day applied for the card (currently waiting for it). Someone from JIB, told me, that beside the application form I should also send copies of all my certificates, as they will be properly graded. Anyone here, been in the same situation and can tell me what to expect?

Thanks!
