Just to be controversial, if you were a new business and had no work, doing something at break even [or just above] to get your name out there and make a few quid to buy a tester MIGHT be in your better interests overall?Goodwill does have a value, even if not monetary.........
NONE of the books I read about starting a business suggested anything like this.....

This is the information you find out when doing a business plan.. PRIOR to starting up.

Check your market place..

Check your costs/overheads..

Make sure you can make a decent profit on each job to cover yourself for the "quiet times".

I have said before... IF you start getting customer at too low a cost..

It is much harder to raise the price to a more reasonable cost...

Better to advertise a full proper cost and possibly a new customer discount to catch the first job with a new customer..

But the customer needs to know a proper cost for the job at day one..

or you can end up making a rod for your own back!

I hate been sat on my arse doing nothing. Maybe it's the different nature of the businesses but I'd rather go out and do some FOC work and show my face, as it often leads to further work - rather than just sit in the surgery or at home. There won't be many times where I've gone out and not earn something versus the nothing I would have made staying in!

If you can earn enough other days then that's fine, but I'm on a salary! I just get bored.

Thanks form all your input lads.

What tester, if i were to purchase one would you recommend, Ive seen some that print labels in the

One that prints lables sounds good to me . Not being known for my high tech skills I hire an old Robin tester from the local instrument repair company, do the tests on manual and write the frigging lables by hand. I tried storing the info once but it all went wrong

Starbuck,

Big bucks but no competition for me Seaward Supernova.

If you're gonna do loads then you need an as fully an automated tester as possible.

Try MeggerMark for a deal.
