I agree Nozspark - I did think about just declining the job but I am slowly being accepted by the company as their first choice electrician, it is just that the PAT testing has come up and naturally I don't want to turn it down and risk not getting any future work. It may be that I have to treat it as a loss-leader.
Well....

maybe do it this time, see how much other work you get off them in the next 12 months and see if it's worth it or not!

I hate PATing and generally tell my customers to get somebody cheap in to do it they still use me for the other work. I will do it if its a few items though. I am not geared up to do large jobs as it all has to be done manually and I don't want to spend hundreds of pounds on the proper gear.

I have a three point strategy for PAT:

1. Only do for existing customers on a new customer with decent potential

2. If you can, charge hourly rate

3. If 2 not possible divide hour rate by 8 (experience tells me I can do 8 items per hour)

If I can't strike a deal on that I have been known to sub it to a local PAT "Specialist" - he is no risk to me as he can only do PAT!

you could try and add an added value like rectify common issue's like incorrect fuse's, loose cable grips even damaged cable(if you want to go that far) then they might not see
