I dont understand why old colour cable is worth more.

No one goes around checking if something has been installed and not notified, and if they did would the old colours really convice the fictional checker its an old install.

No one checks what has been notified, if i grassed up a few builders i doubt anything would happen. Not that i would know who to inform. Its the homeowner who would have the fine anyway, but im sure it can all be claimed the installation is not finished yet which is why it has not been notified.
There you go Deke, pewter has given reasoning as to why part p will be scrapped?!

It's all about perception. Someone wants to do some DIY work, they might use red/black cable.

If they come to sell the house and the buyer asks for an EICR what will the inspector report?  Do you think he will be able to tell it was done recently and should have been notified?

That must be the logic behind it.

While people are prepared to pay silly money to perpetuate this myth, then if I get any decent lengths of red/black then they will be going on ebay as you get loads more than from weighing it in.

I agree Dave, i think its a myth the builders must have come up with while talking at the Wickes burger van.

My experience with people selling houses is.

Home owner:   Im selling my house and need a part-p certificate. I had a ton of work done and got no certificate.

Me:  I can not issue you a EIC and notify Part-P  ...... blah blah blah...... i can do an EICR

Home owner:  I will contact the estate agent/ buyers.

Home owner: They was confused and said just do us one of them then.

me:  The EICR

homeowner:   yeah one of them please

No one is bothered if anything didnt get notified.  When doing an EICR as far as i know, im not looking for work that might have been done and not notified.

The electric police could always turn up on someones door for a shake down, and that red and black cable might prevent them from receiving a stretch in the electrical offenders prison for naughty boys and girls.

I think I posted this before but when doing 17th C&G   , there were about 25  in the class, none over 30 yrs , all funded by their firms except me.

After adapting to me not being the lecturer I was asked why I was taking the course .

My reply that it was a stipulation  of ELECSA and notifying to Plart Plee was greeted with blank looks from all but the Polish bloke who , it seemed, was taking the course without a grasp of the English language & generally buggered off after 1/2 hour nights.

No one had a clue about Party Pea .
