Hello everyone! I've just bought my first house and I'm currently remodelling my garden, part of which will be to install a water pump to run a water feature and led light strip to light it.

The closest power source is inside the garage, some 5m away. There is a fixed double socket in the garage, one socket of which a freezer and washing machine is plugged into via an extension cord.

I was thinking of installing an outdoor socket for the pump and led light to plug into, on the outside wall of the garage. I was hoping that the power supply for the outdoor socket with RCD could be sourced from an extension cord plugged into a spare socket of that extension cord.

Does this sound feasible? Would certification be needed from a qualified electrician?

Many thanks!

Forgert all this extension lead stuff get it done properly. A proper hard wired outside socket conencted properly.  That may be a simple job or may be a lot of work depending if the wiring to the garage has been done properly or some previous DIY bodge.

And get another socket closer to the washing machine. IF it's a wind up lead then make sure you unwind ALL the cable off the drum before using a washer, otherwise sooner or later it WILL melt into one mess of melted pvc.
