alright lads need some advice please my shower has stopped working pull switch turning light on and off but when hitting start on shower pannel pull switch light going off only first year college student dont wanna mess about with it.

sounds like a dodgy shower. When you say the pull switch light goes off do you mean the circuit trips? Need more info. Check obviouys things like water turned on etc. If in doubt call a sparky!

also light at top ov landing flickering on & off been in loft & 2 cable's joined with chocky block & tape

circuit not tripping. pull cord turning switch light on and off but when switch light is on . when i press start button to activate shower pull switch light goes off. no light on shower panel

As Noz has said (Twice) sounds like a loose connection , probably in the pull switch .

Did you mean you are a first year in this trade ?

If so :-

Isolate at the board .

Drop the pull switch,

Test to make sure its dead.

Observe the heat blackened plastic and charred insulation.

Try pulling some fresh cable through .

Fit new switch .

Reinstate power

Take shower .........its been three weeks now !!!!!!

If you don't have any testers /tools and you don't feel confident , ignore the above .

Can you ask a sparks at work to do it ?

Or are you near anyone on here ?

no probs mate cheers i live newcastle upon tyne just got the feeling i was being served up in public there apologize no affence intended

Although the switch is the most likely place to find the fault, it could equally be a burned out connection in the CU or even a burned out MCB.

I hate to say it, but this is basic stuff. Do they only teach you to install new stuff at college these days and don't teach you how to trace a fault on an existing circuit? (that's where an apprenticeship wins for the practical real life skills on top of the theory) :coat

Fault finding is taught, but that is in Year 3, the OP does say he is in year 1, that means probably getting Health & Safty rammed into him, with a bit of basic electrical thory.

He has come on to say he doesn't want to touch something he doesn't understand, which I respect and give him full marks for, shows he is likely to ask for help before killing himself.

We all have to start somewhere.
