Today I emailed British General concerning the enclosure and got a reply within the hour and this is what they said
Thank you for your interest in our Circuit Protection range enclosures.
"The CFE5W enclosure, which is used for both the CFSHOW1 and CFGAR1 kits, is fully compliant with the 3rd amendment requirements for fire safety just the same as the larger metal enclosures in the range.
We have a kit for surge protecting an entire property, intended to be installed between the meter/main fuse and the consumer unit proper, which uses this enclosure fitted out with the surge protection device and a main switch so yes you can use it for splitting the main tails."
