Hi all

Just wondering if you regularly use protective mat for worktops, wood floors etc

and if so, what is it made of

Cheers

Charles

When I worked for British Gas we were given a protective mat, 25mm x 620mm x 1000mm flexible tough foam, it is brilliant for worktops, putting on cold floors to sit on working at low level, shower tray protection when working in there in case you drop anything etc. Well worth getting one.

It is the same type of foam that the kids play area interlocking tiles are made from I think http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/play-area-mats

Hi Charles!

Well, you, have seen the back of my vehicle in its untidy state..you may have spied my mats

Imuse a piece of Astroturf "underlay" doubled over and held together with gaffer tape.,it,is very flexible and waterproof.i also use a piece of heat reflective backing from underneath a laminate floor for putting on delicate surfaces. All,of these are a similar material,to,the kids playmats above

Carpets, normal house floors, normal dust sheets.

I carry a piece of said interlocking tile and a thick piece of high density thick flexible foamy stuff, which is more to protect me outside in the cold, or in dirty horrible greasy, swarfy factories than the floor!

I avoid domestic like the plague as much as I can!

One of the builders had a good kneeling mat he was using to lay floor tiles .   I must ask him what it was .   I think its something he aquired as opposed to a branded product.      A very dense material , more like rubbery sponge     about 3" thick .   Possibly the filler from a car seat .

I even wear kneepads while standing on stepladder,   theres always a step pressing into the knees.

guy i work with sometimes has a foam one he got from the £1 shop,

it has written on it, 'Gardeners prayer mat'

Perhaps you could do one which has written on it,

'Electricians prayer mat'

I bought some 'workware'  from the Lidl  Sunday specials range. I am amazed at the work trousers, tough material with loads of pockets including double top ones (one set zippable) and knee pad holders. They cost £7 and the knee pads £3. I have used the 2 pairs i bought almost every working day for 5 months now.

My mate paid something silly like £70 for his Snickers ones and mine seem better.
