i didn't know about them until i used them and came across them, my views on them are my own from my own experience. the connectors in question are normally the ones that come with the pump kit and look like thisthe shower waste pumps have a 15mm pipe from the tray to the pump inlet then a 22mm on the outlet side, i've personally found them to br troublesome on both copper and plastic pipe and would never use a hacksaw to cut pipe as i have a 15mm and 22mm pipe slice.
Not sure what you're doing there then, I've fitted the Speedfit pushfit fittings as above to many copper and plastic pipes for high and low pressure applications and have never had any leaking or questionable joints. I know there are a few which have some lateral force for one reason or another and they haven;t been any more or less trouble than any other joints. Only time I've ever seen a problem is when using plastic pipe with no inserts, but even then it's not neccesarily a guaranteed way to cause a problem.

please don't create your own views on our work force without knowing anything about us, our multi-traders are people that are experienced and qualified tradesmen that have taken further training to do a second trade, normally a carpenter that has branched out into plumbing. i know tradesmen like to look down on council workers as if they are not real tradesmen or got their qualifications from the back of a cornflakes packet or suchlike but i assure you round here working for the council is one of the best paid and most sort after jobs, there is a waiting list for jobs as an electrician.
Knew that wouldn;t go down so well!

i've never experienced the copper pushfit connectors so cannot comment on them.

i use those push fits on plastic & copper pipe and never have problem, unless they have not been installed correctly (pipe not cut square, no inserts etc). depending on the job, i use either push fit, conex or york fittings

what are the inserts for plastic pipe? I've never installed plastic pipe myself, i always use copper. do the inserts come with the push fits or do they come separately?

separate i think.

u just push them in the end of your pipe it gives the olive something to crush to, as for pushfits i guess its the same.

probs with pushfits, cant solder near them with out wet rags (not applicable if using more push fits)

dont look as nice ( on copper mostly) bulky

the rubber rings arnt always sat properly,

expensive,

some cant be used to capp off pipes near joist

make sure they sit right.

they are fast though and u dont melt or burn anything and u cant solder pipes with water in.

i use both

A plumber mate of mine told me to always use the inserts as it helps ensure that you maintain a seal especialy if the tube is prone to temperature variations. Sounded like good advice to me so I always use insets, cost buttons anyway.

Be advised that the "JG speedfit" white pushfits are NOT suitable for CH pipework. If you need to pushfit CH joints, use the grey non-dismountables.

I don`t tend to see issues with elbows, straights or tees; but flexi tap connectors - yes. I`ve known the "pushfit" section to "explode", with the lower section still clamped around the pipe, and the rest of it attached to the flexi pipe - 2 months after fitting to the underside of a bath.

I`ve also had a flexi feeding a kitchen sink - 10mm pipe - burst for no reason, in an old dear`s house.

n.b. In both cases, the offending articles came from SF; and , in the first case, wasn`t a JG; they used to have some "black and red" pushfits that were carp.

Lurch: if you "knew it wouldn`t go down so well", why say it? Attacking the professional abilities of another trade caused issues before, if I`m not mistaken. I`d hate to see it "kick off" again.........

Where's this from? JG themselves say the Speedfit fittings are suitable for CH pipework.

It didn't though did it. What seems to kick it off is the backlash from a few members who stick their oar in who seem to be overly sensitive.

In that case you're not allowed to comment on plastic push fit fittings. I've used hundreds nad over the years have had less problems with plastic pushfit fittings than I have copper fittings.Slating plastic pipe and fittings off is an old story now, maybe 20 years ago when it was starting to be seen here and there and the first fittings were maybe not so good then yes, but time marches on and so does technology. There's nothing wrong with pushfit fittings, plastic or copper. I use all of the above, dpending on what the job requires.
i'm not allowed to comment on plastic push fit pipe connectors? i do hope your not serious.our multi-traders at the council use them on shower waste pump installations and in my experience they are useless in anything other than a perfectly straight bit of pipe with no weight on it including itself. you get any sideways pressure on them and they leak, in my experience. personally i consider plastic push fit pipe connectors a cheap and nasty lazy job rather than doing it the right way, myself i use either a pipe bender or yorkshire fittings as once fitted(correctly) they pretty much cannot fail.

i have no idea what push fits were like 20 years as i've been in the trade/out of school for 12 years.
50\50.The problem there is not the connections but the council 'multi-traders' I think. When you say shower waste, what size are we talking about, and what make fittings are you using? Either you're using some rubbish fittings or someone needs to flick through the instruction books a bit. I remember someone complaining about plastic pushfit fittings, turned out he was cutting the pipe with a questionable hacksaw.

Well I'm not saying you personally have formed this decision, I'm sure the hype and hysteria over the rubbish plastic ffittigns made your mind up for you before you used them.
All you had to say; Lurch, Is that you have never had any problems with them. You - and No-one else has the right to say "What are you doing on here then" or "then you shouldn't comment" etc.

I will only Say this once more. This is a friendly forum! there is no need to, nor do we welcome comments like those that you have made.

Keep it friendly. If you feel the need to have an outburst or similar - then I respectfully suggest that you find another forum to have it on.

Thank You.

PS - I know of Plumbers who can't stand pushfits. I know of plumbers who swear by them.

I personally am a fan of "Copper and solder".

Any tips Admin? This blue poly pipe keeps melting way before the solder will flow. What am I doing wrong? :coat
Nooo, The Band/Group as in Music. :p

People need to stop taking things to heart. Bit of light banter is all it is, just always seem to end being dragged out. Maybe I should use more smilies?

Either use more smilies or not say it. ;)

Simples.
