I occasionally use a local history forum ( Birmingham History Forum) , logged in after a long absence to find a message at the top , " The Forum has been hacked into and all the photographs have gone"

So, how do you secure a Forum? ..... Admin?? Anyone?

Why does someone do that ? Is it just malicious behaviour ?

Can you trace such a person?

Can you go round and knee him in the goulies? ?

If the forum is completely up to date, all security patches issued have been installed, all back end admin stuff secured through htaccess files and both hardware and software firewalls are in place then it's generally very difficult unless the hacker finds an unkown exploit.

If the forum is not secure, old, out of date, badly maintained then it's pretty easy for anyone including a hacker to google how to do it.

Yes they have nothing better to do.

You can trace IP address but this doesn't get you far without further info from the ISP and IPs can be spoofed so this doesn't always give you a correct IP.

Our server is fully up to date and secured although late last year the host still suffered a DOS attack which took down ours and other servers for some six hours, so it's always best to keep up to date and try to stay in front.

Thanks AD 3 . Very informative.

Now can you explain the meaning of your signature ...

It' actually Borg, for:

"Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated"

It worries me a little that we have an Ad that could be Borg, perhaps we had all better behave, else we will be assimilated into our computers and be teleported into Ad1's dungeon!!!

no worries for Deke then,

he is at one with his komputor, its as if he was born with a microchip inside him, he controls it almost telepathically.

Ah you have me sussed Stepperardo , I am one of Admin's experiments. I was chosen to have an implant in my head , mainly because theres a lot of unused space in there , this gives me a telepathic connection with the komputor at all times . The only drawback are the two car batteries I carry round to power it and the 8 ft aerial bolted to my skull.

Yes I am a small cog in the machine Admin has created in his quest to take over the world and , ultimately, to manage Swansea City FC .

In all seriousness , is there a measurement for the human brain ... (my own has been measured at minus 2KB)

Its similar to a PC with your early memories stored away in the Hard Drive and everyday short memory stuff in the .....erm.....um.... .......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... :C

Theres Currys for you !!!

But did you know that every time you log on , Admin downloads a byte of your brain power and adds it to build his Master take over the world computer , thats why Apache doesn't log in so much these days, his brain is almost empty.
