Hi can someone please explain why some cu you see have 2 rcd with 9 mcb but then 1 seperate rcbo. Is the rcbo for like a freezer circuit?

Is there any advantage of having no rcd and just all circuits on rcbo?

Also why do some have double pole rcd?

Thanks very much

Welcome to the forum Haddow, discrimination -vs- costs is a big factor. if RCBO's were the same price as MCBs I doubt if anyone would use many dual RCD boards.

thank you for the answer. So if they were cheaper then all be rcbo so to stop one circuit tripping the others - ok got that thanks

It pivots around that regulation about reducing inconvenience due to a single fault.

I don't mind having a dual RCD board in my house because provided I always have some sockets or lights, things are OK. But if I was putting a new board into a house where someone was relying on a stair lift, I'd really want it on its own RCBO (of at least the ring it is off on it's own RCBO ) so that any other fault in the rest of the house wouldn't leave anyone stranded upstairs.

It's all about looking at the house, price and people using the board.
