Hi 1st post here so be gentle

Have got some old metal lights from eastern europe

which I'm selling to people

No class markings too old for that so have rewired with

new .75 3c flex and earthed it with a ring crimp

Can I flash test this with an insulation tester or will I need a pat tester for my own piece of mind and its the fitting I'm selling alone , will it need any certification

Thoughts ?

Welcome to the forum. Thoughts selling electrical items you have repaired and/or tested. Are you qualified, is your tester calibrated to verify its accuracy. In essence it is not much different from an electrician fixing a faulty fitting he encounters at a customer premises. Yet I suspect you may have more legal obligations re-selling second hand refurbished electrical items. I do know most of our local charity shops will not re-sell any electrical items, But you can buy and sell electrical equipment at Cash Converters! As a bare minimum I think continuity, polarity, insulation resistance with a calibrated meter carried out by a qualified professional electrician should be about as safe as the average light fitting installed by a DIY homeowner.

Thanks for replying

Yes I'm a qualified electrician with calibrated equipment

Just enough cowboys around on eBay and such sites and want to be the exception to the rule !

Well I think an insulation resistance test @ 500v between all combinations of L-N, L-E, N-E and a low resistance continuity test from your earth lead to various parts of the metal work of the fitting will be doing just as much as the average PAT meter would do.

I think you need to be sure that there is no chance of these requiring product certifications, or being construed as new.

Really you should do a flash test on them see the back of the IET PAT book.
