Did a pub referb in reading when i was an apprentice- we walked into the 1st floor flat living room to find a corpse of a cat on a sofa it was almost moving with maggots!!! The smell was horrific i insta chundered ! The smell hit my face like a cricket bat! Ive also found a cat in a block of flats cold water storage tank in Southwark london hmmmm wonder how long it was there for with people brushing there theeth and washinh in that water.

Wow that's gross ! did you actually do any work in that 1st floor flat ?

Well the whole pub was being redone and it was the 1st day all the lads had just tipped up to have a look round the place and we were just lucky enough to be the first in that room yum yum. They had the site cleared as smack heads had broken into it as well and they deemed in unsafe to work until it had been cleared. We went back 2 days later iirc.

I used to work for a large Bristol company which had various housing association contracts. We have entered properties before and instantly vomited through the stench of faeces etc. We have had some families who engage in the 'art' of smearing in the toilets and some who use carpets as large incontinence pads. I only refused to work in one house and was threatened by the powers that be if I din't do it my life would be made uncomfortable. In the end I told them to stick it and now refuse to do any contract work anymore. Life is too short and there are far nicer properties to work in than dole blagging crack taking scummers houses.

You would have the Health and Safety Executive on your side. Every tradesman has a right to work in a safe working environment. Those 'powers that be' need taking down a peg or two.

Could not open a door into a living room once because of a pile of

sweaty clothing piled up in the middle of the floor. The pile was 4ft

6 inches high. Had to exclude those sockets from that test.

You would like to think so but in reality it never happens. Ended up having a battle with them over an asbestos incident posted on here a year ago and they found all the loopholes they needed and sacrificed people to save the business from prosecution. Reality is always very different to theory!
