Replacing Bathroom extractor fan

Hi all,

I had not used the extractor fan in the bathroom for years, as the bathroom was rarely used.
I then had a refurb, and replaced the extractor, as it was large.amd outdated.

I wired it in, according to the instructions. See photo.
However, there are strange things going on.

When the isolator is on, and the light off, the lights are dimmed, extractor powered (blue light) but the fan doesn't kick in. When the light switch is turned on, nothing.

No idea what is going on. All I have done is wired the new fan.

However, the isolator switch itself, is broken, so not sure if this would have an impact?

Any support would be appreciated, as always!

Most likely the grey is neutral and the black is switched live. So swap them over and find out if you have damaged anything in the fan by wiring it wrong.

Thank you. I just went by the instructions for the fan.

The fan instructions won't tell you what colour, just neutral, live and switched live.

There is no defined colour code for this as all 3 colours are live colours under current regs. Most say use grey for neutral and sleeve it blue to say so. A few (probably older) sparks use black for neutral as that is what it used to be.

Either way you should have checked which was used for neutral before you disconnected the old fan.
