In the office again.
Did the self-assessments today (3 off) - mine & mrs. KME`s; and the business partnership.

In order to do the business one online, you have to do 2 things:

1. buy a 3rd party bit of software to submit it for you.

2. open a "government gateway" account under the business` UTR.

No. 1 is iffy, as HMRC provide details of about 15; some won`t load, some don`t tell you how to buy, and some seem to be aimed at accountancy firms. Grrrrrrrrrrr

No. 2 is easy - but you have to wait for a postal authorisation before you can submit your return. If you have to do this - allow time for it. ***** of a day.

Only good news:

You don't need the 3rd party software.

The site works out the tax owed or overpaid as you input the figures

Thats what Mrs. said, too.

HMRC website lets you do SA100 (personal tax returns), but NOT SA800 (partnership), so you have to buy someone else`s S/W to do it, which costs between

Have a look at crunch just google it, I know a few small businesses that use this on a monthly payment basis and all returns tax liabilities are vtaken care of and looks cheaper than accountants. I may be changing to it soon.

Our accountant saves us more money than we pay him in fees in the year. It's easy to mess up or miss out on various tax relief you are entitled to. Even if you save some money by doing a lot of the donkey work for them.

Don't think ours does, but thats our fault for doing much of the donkey work ourselves!

We don't make use of all of the services that are included in our fees, otherwise it probably would.
