Hi Guys,

One bed flat in concrete block of flats.

Ceiling gonna be suspended on metal frame in order to put down lighters in it. How can I run pvc twin&earth cables? Shall I put them in to copex or shall I earthed the metal frame? Please can any one talk me through how is the best way and proper procedure to do that.

Thanks

drill concrete ceiling and plug and screw metal band or other suitable fixing for cable support.

Not permitted to drape / throw cables directly over suspended ceiling frame.

have you not seen how the BMS chaps install over a suspended ceiling ? Not to mention the alarm and networking lot.......

Just Spaghetti-ing
oi, it takes practise to make a birds nest in a reasonable amount of time^^

When you said metal frame, I first thought you were talking ceiling tiles as in an Office.

If you are just putting up a suspended plasterboard ceiling, forget the metal frame work. Frame it up in timber, then you can just clip your cables to the top of the timber frame and screw the plasterboard to the bottom.

Why make life difficult?

Never used the metal stud work myself for stud walls but any I have seen have smoothed edged holes for cables going through.  Back to the OP I thought he was referring to the metal grid type suspended ceilings used in offices and shops.

don't think it's in the big book, I seem to rememer it being in the OSG or on the NICEIC website. Anyway, the general remit is not to throw cables across sharp egded bits of metal, to avoid this, cable tray, catenary wire, etc etc are recommended to avoid cable sitting on the frame, not that many people take much notice. However, most of that info refers to office ceilings, what you are talking about is a bit different. Think you will have to make an assessment based on the system being fitted.
