SITE FOREMAN INTERVIEW ???

Hi guys

Im new to this site and was wondering if I could please have some help?

I have been a qualified electrician for a year and a half now and a site foreman vacancy has come up at my current company and I have got through to interview stages. I am getting really nervous now as I am pants at interviews and the people I am going up against have experiance in this feild so how am I going to convince them when they ask me why should they give me the job?

You need to sell "YOU".

What do you offer that the others don't?

What is your USP?

Just as Sidewinder has stated, you have to sell yourself. Your advantage is that you will know the company and the way it works, if you go into any interview with the thought that you are not good enough, or have limited experiance you will always have a bad interview.

Get a peice of paper and a pen, sit down and write down all the things that would make you an ideal candidate for the job. You may be surprised at what you can offer. Then find any weakness, what does the company do that you are not too sure on ? When you find any weakness in your ability try to find a way to put this right, could be asking the right person, or booking yourself on any form of management program.

The interview is the last stage of what should be a very long preperation.

one thing I always used to use, is its very easy to get into a situation where its question - answer, question - answer. Try introducing conversation into your answers, the interviewer will see you less of a robot and more of a person then, if you understand me. Winning them over with your personality is a big one.

on a serious note danielle : you should show them that you are curtious and confident, and that you are willing to learn new things in order to progress further through your job.

Interview is over and I never got my two-penn'th in !! You would have sailed through if only you had listened to me !!!! I was a site forman for years , it can be a thankless task TBH . Some guys will turn against you , you have to walk a line between being the firm's man and one of the guys (or gals in your case)

Being female I assume you already get the sexist crap from blokes, well it would get worse as a forman as they will be waiting for you to drop a ballcock.

I was going to say that a site foreman needs good organising skills and needs to win the respect of those under him/her. You need what is called now " People Skills" . And the instant you let it go to your head and become self important, you,ve lost it.

well I have had a good start as I get on really well with all the guys and office staff and they refer to me as their sparkette lol

People skills is a strong point for me as i was always taught treat everyone the same ; -)

Ive put my best efforts into the application so I really hope im sucessful and its good to hear from someone whos already been there and done it some really good advice and I will keep it in mind for the future
