I had a call the other day from my energy supplier wanting to make an appointment to fit my smart meter that I had requested.

a brief but heated debate ensued which was surprisingly one sided

It turns out my new smart meter isn't a smart meter at all, it's just digital.

They're not being installed in Northern Ireland

I wouldn't know anything about that!

Early Ferranti meters had a metal casing to stop that.

it is not obligatory to have a SM fitted, and I believe you can request it's 'disconnection' if you have one fitted.

I need to speak to our erstwhile apprentice   who  currently fits commercial smart meters  but will be taking on board the  domestic ones very soon . 

I'd like to know about calibrating them  , setting them up , which has to done to your own contract with supplier . 

He mentioned the solenoid which can be used to cut off power  remotely due to  none payment . 

I'm fascinated by the Government's urgency in getting the whole country changed over within the next 10 mins .
