Hi chaps

this is my first post.

does anyone know what the regs are regarding cable for smoke alarms in domestic premises? Is T&E acceptable or is FP or LSF a requirement

In a normal house you can use 3&E for the interconnecting cables and T&E for the supply; if you use 3&E for the supply from a db then you can carry out your full tests from there (after removing the alarms that is!!)

I suspect for houses of 3 or more stories and HMO's will require FP

 
I use 1mm T/E and Aico with RF bases on refurb or loft conversions/extensions, no need for the dedicated smokes circuit then ;)

Newbuilds I go for a dedicated circuit wired in 3c/e with standard smoke/heat heads.

On site Guide pages 64 - 66 section 7.5.2. gives general guidance.

and Page 16 of Approved document B "Fire safety"

1.21 states

any cable suitable for domestic wiring may be used for power supply and interconnection of smoke alarms.....
