For the past three days there has been work going on in the pavement both outside my house and across the road to put new cables in for tv and internet.  Since then I have been getting electric shocks every time I touch my sink.  I did think it was the microwave so I unplugged it and moved it to the hall because when I touched it I felt a lot of static electricity.  Despite this the shocks are still happening when I touch my sink.   I have lived in my house for 9 years and never had it happen before it is only since they started working outside. I just wondered if this could cause it.

call your local DNO (call 105) and tell them. sounds like a cable may have been disturbed / damaged, making the earth in your house and possible you neighbours, live. they should send someone within a few hours to check

I rang an electrician and he is coming round later.  I also rang the local DNO and they are sending someone.
