Saw this on a job yesterday, stll in use and working.well,  working on  mains as i think the battery had passed its best. From the rest of the house i recon this was installed  mid 70,s

Take the battery out

cut top off

remove cells

it makes a really good pencil/pen holder

FWIW that panel looks like a BS80

It has a mechanical lock that operates one of two microswitches (One for on the other for off)
