Similar fault to the one that killed a young lady recently. The electrician was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter simply because he didn't test properly. In your case you disconnect the faulty cable at the feed end or the socket end ?
I also fit a few sockets next to the board as temps. We always have a few temp boards made up with a rcd main switch in a consumer unit with a couple of 20a circuits feeding 3 double sockets each. Also have a bulkhead light attached as there are never any lights around. These get fitted as if a new permanent board goes up the plasters normally disguise it as a mountain and by magic the lid gets broken off.
