moving a cooker circuit and the walls are straw, there are holes in the straw were cable has been run through, was thinking of rod up through the hole to pull the 6mm cooker cable through but would this derate to 23 amp?, its a 20 amp oven and could swap for a 20 amp mcb.

whats the best fixings to use ?

and is there any other considerations for straw walls. thanks

dont take that the wrong way mate. Its only a joke but the link may be of some use but i didnt read it through.

Cheers :DGuinness

I don't know what the answer is but I think it is a very interesting question. Which I believe is a new topic on the forum, unless Apache knows of some hidden thread?

Doc H.

i have come across them a few times but this is the first time i have had to chop into them. my guess is to treat them as thermal insulation, the house wiring seams standed, 32 amp 6mm cooker, 32 amp 2.5 ring, standard imersion and light circuis

I've come across loads of Stramit walls, mainly from large national housebuilders with houses built in the 90's. All the installs have been the usual cable size arrangements. Any alterations I've made have followed the same way, and all existing boxes have been metal, so again I've followed suit. Some of the existing cables have been run in existing channels in the straw, some haven't.

Loads of estates round the Basingstoke area have these walls (Charles Church was the builder)

Do cable calcs as per thermal insulation.

Use existing pipe holes & do as you say run rods up or down the hole. I put a wodge of insulation tape arount the tip to stop the rod tunneling into side of hole wall.

Dont bother bashing away with bolsters when chasing, use a wood chisel to take out the plaster/board, then use a sharp blade to cut out the straw.

Use gripfill or easyfill to secure rawl plugs & back box, then screw through to the plugs.

i have been stanly away at it.

so really then the cabe should derate by half as it is surrounded by thermal insulation.

i will cut a channle for the cooker cable so it touches the face of the wall that should keep it derated to 35 amps.

i could order a 20 amp mcb but its legran and electrofix charge for delivery.

that sound about right?

I have a load of Legrand mcb's & an rcd in the workshop.......I think........I must stop collecting the sodding things (mcb's) when changing cu's.

But yes you are right.

legran are a right pain to get hold of but batty pointed me to electrofix or mk
