Went to a property today, everything was in order, Main bonding all in place, 16th edition board.

Looked in bathroom and no supplementary bonding was visible, had a look in the airing cupboard and there was a 4mm earth running from top to bottom so looked in the loft and saw it was connected to lights cpc.

Got the tester out and checked the pipework and it was all at less than 0.05 ohms. I think the supp bonding is under the floorboards - is it ok to assume this or not?

did you disconnect form the light first? if so, i would assume its connected. it may have been soldered on so does not require access, or it could be a BS951

Thought it was ok to do bonding in an adjacent boiler/cylinder cupboard if its not possible in bathroom itself. this could be the situation your looking at.

The house was only done to 16th with no RCD on lights or emersion and I'd been asked to look at a job on the ring so checked out the supp bond whilst at it.

I'm pretty confident now that it must have been done under the floor as all the numbers stacked up and everything else in the place was spot on - there were even numbers on each cable in the CU, a rare sight indeed !!!!

Why should there be an RCD on the immersion heater.

because if everything had RCD protection then the supplementary bonding not necessary? :|
If it was done to 16th bathroom should be supp bonded and unless the install was tt you would not need Rcd protection on immersion or lights. You cannot pick and choose between different regs (ie 16/17th) And as for no supplementary bonding on my last assessment I was told if there is a large potential difference between two extraneous conductive parts they will still need to be supplementary bonded.
