I was trying to arrange a temporary disconnection for planned CU replacement next week. I called UK Power Networks and they redirected me to the supplier( British Gas). The girl from BG seemed to be suprised and told me to call the distribution network.I will apreciate if you share your experiences and any sugestions. Thanks

If your customer gets their electricity from BG then it is BG reponsibility from cutout on thus it is them you need to contact for temporary disconnection not the DNO who are only responsible for the network up to the cutout.

Spooky.

I have just come off the phone to WPD reference meter tail requirements. I'm changing a board on a property and need to know if they have requirements over and above the BRB's, i.e. 16mm and 3m in length. They put me on to EDF who are the meter operators and have control of those requirements.

Unfortunately the poor fella I spoke to at EDF had no idea what I was referring to. He hunted around for a good while asking colleagues and they weren't sure either. His final comment was that EDF own the meter tails and if they need changing their meter men would come out to do it! I think he was a little confused with which side of the meter we were discussing. Hats off to him though he tried his best to help me.

Back to the OP though. I have in the past requested WPD come in to install a new isolator switch downstream of the meter to enable CU changes without disturbing the main fuse. On other occasions a bright pink, fairy like creature has removed the fuse in my absence!

This shows what a shambles the electricity distribution is when the supplier is not the DNO.

You have tried to do things by the book, and found the system to have failed.

Now do what the rest of us do. Just pull the main fuse and get on with the job. Of course the seal fairy has been before you so there is no seal on the main fuse to worry about is there And if you need new tails into the meter, then the seal fairy has visited that as well :)

Once complete, notify the energy supplier in writing that when doing work at the property you found the seals to be missing and advise them to go and re seal everything. Chances are they won't bother.
