Tessla Powerwall 2 and offpeak economy 7/10

If I made an enquiry into offpeak energy supply economy 10 economy 7, if I wanted that offpeak power to power up and charge a Tesslar Powerwall 2 with NO solar panels to start with, has anyone any idea what amount of grid kwh power it to take to deliver a full charge and if I could it charge up this way in the night, I'm thinking, offpeak power for this purpose as might be similar to powering storage heaters. You get three or four days on battery, then recharge or just top up as the power drains with offpeak electricity.

it will use slighty more than the rated battery capacity - inefficiencies in the system. Can't remember what the capacity of a Tesla is.

I would have a look at what Octopuss or ither energy providers are offering with regards to offpeak energy supplies. Some are offering multiple off-peak times during the day and night which you coud charge up a battery using the 'smart grid'. You would have to enusre your battery is compatible wth those systems. Do please report back anything you do find, I'm not very familiar with that side of batteries / solar and smart grid functionality.

I discovered octopus various tariffs, It was very much a learning curve, I did not know about offpeak power prices changing every half hour. If I never used Tessla and had another set up that would charge an array of batteries, I imagine this connection would be dedicated supply between the supply incoming and the fuse board. A fused 30 amp switch or isolator. By the way ! I have an old fuse box, it supply the ring main and lights. It never seemed necessary to change it. There's no great loads, a couple of fish pumps and fridge freezer, TV and lighting. This moment in time there's no immersion but I'll bet I'll have to go back to one. I discover Powervault. This is the kind of thing I was hoping for. I can install solar panels another time and add this generating capacity another time.

batteries are better on there own cct connected to your fuse board. If your board is really old it would be recommended to have it inspected and your whole house tested - think of it as an MoT for your electrics. If you are installing a new cct, then that cct needs to be 'up to date'. Thee are lots of battery systems, you would be looking for an AC set up - ie direct connected to the grid without solar panels. Many now advertise 'octopuss compatible' for smart metering connections, which allows Octopuss to control the battery in line with cheaper off peak metering by the half hour. I've not had time to read up on such things, so can't comment on how financially beneficial it would be. But it certainly sounds interesting.

I have been playing with battery's and solar for years now. My trouble has been that technology has advanced and I cannot keep up with it financially and for me making sure that it's cost effective and that it pays back the initial investment that it's taken to try and win. Well I have not won just yet. I have another 2 years out of 9 years to have really received my initial outlay. Most of the YouTube guys no disrespect intended have a few Bob spare and can afford lovely Tesla power walls and state of the art solar systems . But there actual pay back must be 10 plus years if they are really worried about it's true cost effectiveness. If my current growatt 5kw battery fails again I will be out of pocket as it will be out of warranty. I have another off grid system I am playing with using 13v leaisure battery's as a 48v pack but I have issues with the hybrid inverter. When that works I can power my home for 4 hours just on that system. But I will say newer equipment is or I should say has so many more options like say allowing you to use cheap grid to charge battery's as well as panels. But with energy prices now today trying to save money is harder. I suppose every penny helps. It cost me £140 to have an economy 7 meter fitted so another cost to save money. There are so many tariffs now to suit individuals needs. For myself I opted for an cheaper night rate for 2 ev chargers and a sauna use. I know some tariffs give you 4 hours free or really reduced tariffs but they claw back in another way. For me longer cheaper time was best as we do everything on timmers in that period unless we have sunny days then we switch as we have 8kw system which is enough on good days for ev charging and washing and dish washers.. I don't own any latest high tech battery packs but from my own experience only let the buyer be aware. Check that the warranty is 100% read small print. I have had controllers fail inverters and battery's ,and they don't just replace with new it's all reconditioned equipment and it takes months to replace.
