hi everyone

i have recently started a job with a company that deals with nursing homes

soon i will be expected to do PIRs on some

i have experience of Testing in normal domestic situations and have passed 2391

however i dont have any experience of testing large installations with a main board, feeding sub boards etc

can anyone give me any tips

in which case your not competent, and shouldnt be carrying out the work.

best thing would be to tell them this and that you will only do the work under supervision/ along side someone else for now

yeah i have told them so looks like ths=ey will send me out with someone else mate for the first few untill i am "competant"

but for now i wanna chat to someone helpful who can just fill me in on how they would go about doing such a test

im quessing you would start at main dis board and move onto subs

seems the most obvious way to go about it

but one of the things that puzzles me is how would u do a IR test and ensure noone is touching any metalwork

Usually, in larger installs, much of the testing is "limited" by what can, or cannot be safely isolated.

Generally, the best first steo is to familiarise yourself with the installation "tree"; i.e. the various sub mains, where they are, where they`re from, etc. Draw a diag - it can be invaluable in knowing how / where a certain area or DB is fed via.

Ins. is straightforward:

1. If earth is one of your ins. tests, and someone is touching metalwork at the time.......what will happen?

Of more concern are the live tests, TBH - speak to the guy they send out with you - we`ve all developed our little "tricks & tips" - you`ll be expected to use the system the competent person recommends to you.
