testing floodlights

I know when insulation testing on domestic lights you take the lamps out before doing a test on the circuit.The floodlights I know you have to take the son e lamps out but can I do a insulation test on these fittings ?It wont damage them will it?

I wouldn't bother taking the lamp out, I'd just disconnect the supply to the ballast

Or u could test it by connecting L & N together and testing between earth..

This test l+n to earth with floodlights, flourescents etc, do I still have to take all the lamps out when doing the test or can I leave them in while doing it?Ryan

Leave lamps in mate as joining live and neutral bypasses the load and tests to earth.

Your statement is incorrect and should not be considered as a realistic option for doing PIR's in the real world working to practical timescales for paying customers.

Try disconnecting every transformer, lamp, LV equiptment...

In a ideal word yes every lamp would be taken out and I do, do that if it's possible if it's not then IR test 2 is used

Yep, this way every time unless a prob discovered

On a new installation, I would test the circuit before terminating into the PIR sensor. On an existing, well, everyone has given you the answer.
