Hi all,

As most of you know, I have been hard at work on a new Part P Doctor book for a few months now:z

When you launch a work, as a publisher, you have to inform a an organisation called neilsens who are the cataloguers for everything. Following on you have to deposit a copy at the British Library so you end up stored with Shakespear, Wordsworth and of course the Magna CartaROTFWL

I am close to print now and sent off my application last Sunday evening.

On Friday night I was demonstrating to The Part P nurse how far up google I am when I stumbled upon this bombshell......

So the pressure is truly on now! I just wanted to thank this forum, as though I dont post that often I regularly tune in to read debates and explanations for inspirationApplaud Smiley

I am not sure how we are going to do it, but admin will be installing a link directly to my website when ready. I am looking into a talk.electrician.co.uk discount scheme for members here .....

When i started out teaching I met a lot of teachers on my travels. A lot of them are highly qualified academics and I am not! I wanted to tell my story in a different way from all the others and think it worked out well.

Yep the good looking one is the doctor:x

when I did the first one I looked around at what books were already there. They always have pictures of wires on the front and the author is named by surname only. Then inside it tells of how many phds Ieng and Ceng they posses and so on.

When i teach I dont wear a suit and tie, I walk in and say "Hi, I'm Alan. I am a sparkie first and teacher second and I am here to help you guys out! The book had to be the same.....

We were going to have wires on the new one but an engineer who i didnt know from Adam walked up to me on a project recently, introduced himself and congratulated me.

My artman dave gee then decided that i was going on the front again!

Now, as to payments and product placements, there are none. If no-one is paying the piper, he cannot play they're tune

I had a bad experience on the last project regarding this.

I went to a manufacturer for financial backing, it went something like this.....

Yes, we will pay for print and publicise, leave it with us......

A few months later, yes we will substantially contribute to the costs

A few months later, "yes we will make a contribution if you devote a full page of a write up specifically endorsing our products"

Did all that......and waited...... and waited....

a few months later....."no we have changed our minds with help now as the book is full of our pictures anyway so we are making no contribution"headbang

the whole thing delayed the original by 12 months at least, very painful. I am glad though because I do a few things a bit differently so "financial interference" can change your views. A little like party politics perhaps:z

Yes it was John Peckham....

There are a few heavyweights on the IET forum and he is among the most respected. A nice chap as well to boot.

Hi

Respect for doing the book - hope it works out well for you - as an ex lecturer and teacher I can see where you are coming from!

Can you get extra mileage from a questionnaire to forum members? There are some sound blokes here who are more than willing to help out. If we can get people thinking what the regs are really about then most problems can be solved by common sense!
