Cheeky duck, be shush or Ill make some orange sauce

Rev, at the behest of our previous singer who had trouble pitching, we went to In Ear Monitors so we could have a 'silent stage'. No amps on stage at all.  Each instrument/mic feeds .to a central brain, which then sends a multicore feed forward to the engineers mixing desk, and any number of multi-channel feeds to personal mixers via good old Cat5 cable and ethernet connections.

the box in front of Mandy is her personal mixer (16 channel) so she can have whatever mix she wants going to her ears. Each band member has one, my own preference is for a fair bit of keyboard, plenty of my own instrument so I can hear what im doing and not much guitar and drums. Each member has their own tastes tho of course.

It saves a lot of time with engineers not having to manufacture individual foldback mixes (I once spent a very painful 2 and a half hours listening to a band keep asking for a bit more here and a bit less there, they kept playing the same 4 bar phrase over and over again)

Where you do lose out is in audience feedback, coz the earpieces wont let ambient noise through 9 or shouldn't for best results) but weve got round that by having an ambient mic in the room tuned to its own channel. You also have to trust your sound engineer too. Every so often I take my earbuds out and play blind, just coz Im old fashioned like that

Thats a great idea. A bit high tech. I play bass and I just have to make sure I'm near a monitor. I just have my 100W peavey next to me and refuse to put my bass through the PA (they always turn me down) bass should be LOUD  - When I play in the jazz band on trumpet, theres no amps on or off stage so I just stand right next to the piano so I can hear the chord changes.
