Are you aloud to take a book in with you..o one could remember that lot, they say they have a 60% fail rate, but i want to do the course next week, along with a solar pv..any tips on courses

Exams are there to test you. If you know the answers you will pass, If you dont know you will fail, Simples

And if you dont know you should fail.

well Im a dick according to quite a few on this here place and I got a 1st hit with 90+%
well i dont think you are a dick..my new found friend..er mentor..what did you think of those questions, are they a fair reflection..

How did you get your score steps we just got given a pass or fail , they said they did'nt give scores out.

I suppose it depends on where/how you do it,

mine was paper(a few years back and not in England) and the tutor/tester rang each of us up after a week or so to tell us the results before we got the certs through,

on my 2382 I was told on the spot the result, it was last year on a computer.

IMHO this is a big worry of mine,

people on this forum asking questions that should be easily answerable to any 2nd year app , and if a spark is worried about 2391(esp those with schemes to their names) then perhaps he/she should be doing something else.

it really is not a hard exam if you know your job,

I passed it and had done nothing since 15th.

it is a blind(no books) exam, but I dont walk around site all day with a book under my arm either, do you?

some of the questions/equasions you may never use again if all you do is house bashing,

but on the whole it was just an enlargement of the calculations of 17th edition.

if you know you equasions then you will pass, if not then maybe you will find it a few questions on.

as the tutor told us,

"I will not teach you how to test, I will teach you how to pass if you already know the rest"

I think that sums it up really,

if you know your stuff you will pass,

BUT,

I wouldnt want to be doing it with NO course whatsoever.

but good luck anyways.

Trouble is steps they keep changing things I started with the 16th edition although when I first started training as an electrician it probably was the 15th edition I think. My boss was just using up the last of the dark green sleeving and he had a wind up megger for testing. Now I hope I could pass the 2391 with a bit of a read up but I certainly would have to read up as they call things different I mean it was eebads in the 16th now its ads whats it all about. Ccu was cooker control unit now its customer consumer unit I really cannot see the point of changing things just to keep people in work because really thats what its all about.

well i will give it a go, i will pass, if not first time then on another, dont think many of the sparks that i know could answer the questions on that link, and they are pretty damn good sparks

batty my friend(can I call you that?)

its not so much about stuff like sleeving as to how you get your results,

ie,

if you test all circuits at the CU for IR and you get X is this an acceptable result?

if you test 1 circuit and get X is this acceptable.?

if r1 is such what would you expect r2 to be.?

what is the voltage drop likely to be on X circuit and can you detail one way of avoiding this if required.

stuff like this, and its mostly basic, but if you only do house bashing maybe its never needed, and probably most guys doing big jobs never need it either as its all specified,

good, its how you learn, but dont take it as now I know,

keep learning,

I do,

even if I dont come across that way sometimes.

It takes a few months for the results to be posted out and it's just a pass or fail. Not sure how your teacher got yours in a few days? Did mine a few years ago now, just memorise guidance note 3 job done.
